ACFE Philippines Chapter Holds Successful 1st Fraud Conference

The Association of Certified Fraud Examiners-Philippines Chapter held its 1st Fraud Conference-Manila last November 6, 2013 at the InterContinental Hotel Makati. With the theme "The Many Faces of Fraud", resource speakers coming from the academe, government, private industry and media discussed issues faced by Fraud Examiners.

The conference covered various topics including understanding sociological behaviors that contribute to fraud, media's role in fighting fraud, as well as insights into the emerging fraud schemes in the Asian region. There were 210 delegates in attendance, 40% higher than the expected number of registrants.

The purpose of holding the 1st Fraud Conference was not only to provide an event on fraud awareness, but was also aimed to be a source of funding for the free technical sessions provided during the Fraud Awareness Week, as part of the Chapter's advocacy. It was also an opportunity for ACFE Philippines to introduce its presence and services to more organizations with 70% of attendees being non- members of the Association.

The Philippines Secretary of Justice, Atty. Leila M. de Lima was the keynote speaker. She discussed the challenges faced in investigating fraud in the public sector. and how the private sector can help in curbing fraud and corruption in the government.
